Bertolli is one of the world's most recognized olive oil brands, originally founded in Lucca, Tuscany, in 1865 by Francesco Bertolli and his wife Caterina. What began as a small trading shop eventually became a global leader in Italian-style food products. While the legacy of the brand is rooted in Italy, its production today involves a complex global supply chain sourcing olives from various Mediterranean regions and beyond to maintain high volume and consistency for international markets.

Ownership of the Bertolli brand is split across different food categories. The olive oil business was sold by Unilever in 2008 and is currently owned by Deoleo, a Spanish multinational that is the world's leading olive oil bottler. This transition moved the ultimate corporate headquarters of the olive oil division from Italy/Netherlands to Spain. Meanwhile, other Bertolli products like pasta sauces and frozen meals are owned by different entities such as Mizkan and Conagra Brands, but the olive oil remains the flagship product under Deoleo's stewardship.
