ELMA Classic Mastic Gum

ELMA Classic is the first Greek chewing gum containing natural Chios Mastiha, a resinous sap from the Lentisk tree that grows exclusively on the island of Chios. The name 'ELMA' is derived from the Greek words for 'Greek Mastic' (ELliniki MAstiha). This specific product, known as ELMA Classic, follows a traditional recipe that includes sugar and pure mastic oil, maintaining the authentic taste and texture established when the brand was first launched in 1958.

Manufacturing takes place at the dedicated factory of the Chios Mastiha Growers Association on the island of Chios, Greece. As a Product of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), the production of the raw mastic and its primary processing are strictly confined to the southern 'Mastihohoria' (Mastic villages) of Chios to ensure the authenticity and quality of the medicinal and culinary properties associated with the resin.

The brand is owned and managed by the Chios Mastiha Growers Association (Enosi Mastihoparagogon Chiou), a compulsory agricultural cooperative founded in 1938. The cooperative represents approximately 4,850 growers and holds the exclusive legal rights to the management and trade of natural Chios Mastiha globally. This unique structure ensures that the profits from products like ELMA gum directly support the local agricultural community on the island.
