Durex is a world-leading brand specializing in condoms, personal lubricants, and sex toys. The brand name is an acronym for 'Durability, Reliability, and Excellence.' Founded in 1915 as the London Rubber Company, it initially sold imported condoms before registering the Durex trademark in 1929. For decades, it was a pioneer in the industry, introducing the first lubricated condom in the 1950s and the first anatomically shaped condom in the 1960s.

While originally manufactured in the United Kingdom, production shifted entirely to international facilities by 2007. Today, Durex products are manufactured in several countries, including Thailand, India, and China, often through large-scale supply partnerships with specialized manufacturers like Karex. Ownership of the brand transitioned from SSL International to the British multinational Reckitt Benckiser (now known simply as Reckitt) in 2010. As of 2026, Reckitt continues to own and operate Durex as one of its key 'Powerbrands' in the global health and hygiene sector.
