Bio-D is a pioneering British brand founded in 1989 by Michael Barwell. Inspired by his experience in industrial cleaning, Barwell sought to offer natural, biodegradable alternatives to the harsh chemicals typically found in household detergents.

Manufacturing and Product Ethics

All Bio-D products are produced in the United Kingdom, specifically at their facility in Hull, East Yorkshire. The company maintains strict ethical standards, ensuring their range is vegan-friendly, cruelty-free, and packaged in recycled materials. By keeping production local to their headquarters, they maintain a lower carbon footprint and ensure high-quality control over their formulations.

Ownership and Global Presence

In 2021, Bio-D was acquired by the Scapa Group, a global supplier of bonding solutions and manufacturer of healthcare and industrial products. Following the acquisition of Scapa by Mativ Holdings, Inc. (formed by the merger of SWM and Neenah), the brand now operates under a broader corporate umbrella. Despite these corporate transitions, Bio-D remains a distinct entity focused on sustainable cleaning solutions for domestic and international markets.
