Ribena Blackcurrant Light squash

Ribena is a world-renowned fruit drink brand characterized by its deep blackcurrant flavor. Originally invented in 1938 by Dr. Vernon Charley at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom, it was famously distributed during World War II as a vitamin C supplement for children. The brand was originally created under the company H.W. Carter & Co, which later became part of Beecham Group (eventually GlaxoSmithKline).

In 2013, GlaxoSmithKline sold the Ribena brand to the Japanese conglomerate Suntory Group. Today, the brand is managed under Suntory Beverage & Food Europe. While the blackcurrants are largely sourced from British farms and much of the production remains in the UK at the Coleford factory, the product is packaged and distributed globally by various regional subsidiaries and bottling partners, such as Royal Unibrew in the Danish market as indicated by the local packaging and deposit symbols.
