Onkyo is a historic brand in the high-fidelity audio industry, renowned for its high-quality home cinema receivers and sound systems. Founded in Osaka, Japan, in 1946 under the name Osaka Denki Onkyo K.K., the company became a pioneer in audio innovation for decades.

Following financial challenges and a bankruptcy filing for the original Japanese entity in 2022, the brand's assets and global rights were acquired. Today, the Onkyo brand is managed through a joint venture between Premium Audio Company (a subsidiary of VOXX International) and Sharp Corporation. While the brand maintains its Japanese aesthetic and engineering heritage, physical production is now largely outsourced across Southeast Asia to facilities owned by Sharp and other manufacturing partners.
