Amplifon was founded in Milan, Italy, in 1950 by Algernon Charles Holland. Originally established to address the hearing needs of those affected by the Second World War, the company has grown from a specialized Italian distributor into a global leader in hearing care solutions.
As a retail and service provider, Amplifon does not manufacture all of its hardware directly. Instead, they partner with leading global hearing aid manufacturers such as Sonova, WS Audiology, and Demant to produce high-quality, private-label products under the Amplifon brand. Consequently, manufacturing occurs in various countries where these technology partners have facilities, including Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, and several locations in Asia.
Amplifon S.p.A. is a publicly traded company listed on the Borsa Italiana. It remains headquartered in Milan and is the world’s largest hearing aid retailer. The Holland family maintains a significant stake in the company through their holding company, ensuring that the brand retains its Italian heritage while operating in over 25 countries worldwide.
