Hengstenberg is a prominent German food manufacturer with a history dating back to 1876 when Richard Alfried Hengstenberg founded the company in Esslingen am Neckar. Originally starting as a small vinegar factory, it has grown into a market leader for pickled specialties, including sauerkraut, red cabbage, and gherkins. The company remains a strictly family-owned enterprise, maintaining its roots in the Swabian region of Southwest Germany.

While the headquarters remain in Esslingen, the company operates major production facilities in Bad Friedrichshall and Fritzlar. These locations are strategically placed near fertile agricultural regions to ensure that the majority of raw materials, such as cabbage and cucumbers, can be sourced from local contract farmers. For certain ingredients that cannot be grown in Germany due to climate, such as specific spices or hot peppers, the company collaborates with partners across Europe. Today, Hengstenberg products are exported to over 40 countries, representing the high standard of German 'Mittelstand' quality on a global scale.
