Gevalia Mellanrost Brygg coffee

Gevalia is a historic coffee brand with deep roots in Sweden, having been founded in 1853 by Victor Theodor Engwall in the city of Gävle. The name 'Gevalia' is actually the Latin name for Gävle. For over a century, it operated as a family-owned business before being acquired by General Foods (a predecessor of Mondelez) in 1971. Today, Gevalia is one of the most recognized coffee brands in Scandinavia.

The production for the European market, including this 'Mellanrost' (medium roast) blend, continues to take place at the brand's primary roastery in Gävle, Sweden, which is the largest of its kind in the Nordic region.

Ownership of the brand is split geographically. In North America, the brand is owned and distributed by Kraft Heinz. However, for the rest of the world, including its home market in Sweden, the brand is owned by JDE Peet's, a Dutch-headquartered global coffee powerhouse formed through the merger of Jacobs Douwe Egberts and Peet's Coffee. JDE Peet's itself is majority-owned by the investment firm JAB Holding Company.
