Wella is a global leader in the hair care industry with a history spanning over 140 years. Founded in 1880 by Franz Ströher in Germany, the brand initially produced tulle for wigs before evolving into a pioneer of hair coloring and perming technology. Today, it is recognized for iconic professional lines like Koleston Perfect and retail products available in over 150 countries.

The brand has undergone significant ownership changes in the 21st century. After being acquired by Procter & Gamble in 2003 and later sold to Coty Inc. in 2016, Wella became an independent entity once again in 2020. As of 2026, the Wella Company is fully owned by the global investment firm KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts), following the completion of a multi-year monetization program where Coty sold its remaining stakes.

Manufacturing for Wella occurs globally to serve its extensive market. A primary high-tech production facility remains in Rothenkirchen, Germany, which focuses on sustainable manufacturing practices. Additional production and distribution facilities are located across Europe, the Americas, and Asia to support its professional salon partners and retail consumers worldwide.
