The name is derived from the phrase 'auf der Alm dudeln,' which refers to yodeling in the alpine pastures. Since 1973, the company has operated primarily as a franchisor and licensor.

While the brand management and marketing are centralized at the headquarters in Vienna, actual production is handled by various bottling partners. In Austria, the product is bottled by local partners like Egger Getränke, and it is also produced under license in several other European countries, including Germany, to serve international markets efficiently. The brand remains strictly family-owned by the descendants of the founder.
