While the brand is synonymous with Caterpillar Inc., the American construction machinery giant, the 'Cat phones' line was actually developed and manufactured under an exclusive global license by the Bullitt Group, a British electronics company based in Reading, UK. However, following the financial difficulties and insolvency of Bullitt Group in early 2024, the licensing landscape for Cat-branded mobile hardware has shifted, with the brand rights remaining with Caterpillar Inc. Production of these devices has historically been centered in China through specialized electronics manufacturing partners.
