The Bols name dates back to 1575, when the Bols family founded their distillery in Amsterdam, claiming the title of the world's oldest distilled spirits brand. While the brand originated as a Dutch liqueur and genever producer, its vodka products in the Polish market have a distinct ownership and production history.

In 2022, the Polish Maspex Group finalized a major acquisition of CEDC International from the Roust Corporation, which included the exclusive rights to the Bols brand for the Polish and Eastern European markets. This move effectively 're-polonized' the brand, shifting its ultimate ownership to a Polish entity. Consequently, Bols vodka sold in Poland is produced locally at the company's distilleries in Oborniki and Białystok, despite the branding's strong nautical and Dutch heritage. The 'Marine' edition is a premium variant launched to capitalize on the brand's long-standing 'Bols Boat' marketing campaign in Poland.
