Cacaolat is an iconic brand from Catalonia, Spain, recognized as the world's first industrially manufactured cocoa milkshake. Its origins trace back to 1931 when Joan Viader Roger, inspired by a drink he encountered in Budapest, developed the recipe using milk from the Letona dairy plant in Barcelona. The product officially launched in 1933 and has since become a staple of Spanish culture, easily identifiable by its 'Pepi' character logo.

Throughout its history, the brand has transitioned through several owners, including the Italian firm Parmalat and the Spanish group Nueva Rumasa. After facing financial instability, it was rescued in 2012 by a joint venture between the Damm brewery and Cobega. As of mid-2024 and continuing into 2026, the brand is owned by a strategic alliance between Idilia Foods (the makers of ColaCao) and Grupo Damm, which jointly manage the company to strengthen its leadership in both domestic and international markets. The product continues to be manufactured in Spain, primarily at its modern facility in Santa Coloma de Gramenet.
