While the brand has its roots in Hollywood, California, where it was founded by Lewis H. Glaser in 1943, its operational heart moved significantly over the decades.

In 1956, a German subsidiary was established in Bünde, Germany. This branch eventually became the dominant force in the company's global operations, especially after the American side of the business faced several ownership changes and financial challenges. Following the bankruptcy of its previous parent company, Hobbico, in 2018, the German entity and the global Revell brand were acquired by Quantum Capital Partners (QCP), a Munich-based investment group.

Today, Revell operates under the umbrella of Revell GmbH and often collaborates with Carrera under the joint name Carrera-Revell.
