Pelikan is a prestigious German brand with a history dating back to 1838, founded by chemist Carl Hornemann in Hanover. The brand is globally recognized for its high-quality writing instruments and stationery products, symbolized by its iconic pelican logo, which was one of the first trademarks registered in Germany.

Traditionally, Pelikan manufactured its goods in Germany, particularly at its historical site in Hanover and later in Peine. However, as the brand expanded internationally, production shifted to include multiple global facilities. Today, Pelikan Group operates manufacturing plants in countries such as Germany, Mexico, Colombia, and Poland to serve different regional markets.

In terms of ownership, Pelikan underwent significant corporate changes over the decades. After being owned by the Malaysian-based Pelikan International Corporation Berhad (PICB) for many years, the Pelikan Group was acquired by the French stationery giant Hamelin in December 2023. As of 2026, Hamelin (through its holding company Holdham SAS) remains the ultimate owner, integrating Pelikan into its global portfolio alongside other major brands like Oxford and Herlitz.
