AKG, which stands for Akustische und Kino-Geräte Gesellschaft m.b.H., is one of the most storied names in audio engineering. Founded in Vienna, Austria, in 1947, the brand is renowned for its high-fidelity microphones and studio headphones. The K240 series, in particular, became an industry standard for monitoring and mixing in professional recording studios worldwide.

While AKG was originally an independent Austrian company, it was acquired by the American conglomerate Harman International Industries in 1994. In 2017, Harman was subsequently acquired by Samsung Electronics. Following this transition, much of the manufacturing and design engineering moved away from Vienna.

Today, while the AKG brand maintains its prestigious heritage, the K240 headphones are primarily produced in China to align with modern global supply chains. The brand remains a subsidiary of Samsung and serves as a key pillar in their professional and consumer audio portfolios.
