Buscopan is a widely recognized antispasmodic medication used to treat abdominal cramps and pain. It was originally developed by the German pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim in the 1950s. The active ingredient, hyoscine butylbromide, is derived from the Duboisia plant. Over the decades, it has become a staple in over-the-counter stomach treatments globally.

In 2017, as part of a significant asset swap, Boehringer Ingelheim traded its consumer healthcare business to the French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi. Since then, Sanofi has been the ultimate owner and global distributor of the Buscopan brand. Manufacturing occurs at several specialized facilities across Europe, primarily in France and Germany, to ensure high-quality production standards for various global markets.
