Tatcha is a prestige skincare brand inspired by Japanese beauty rituals and heritage. It was founded in 2009 by Victoria Tsai, who developed the products in collaboration with scientists and geisha in Kyoto, Japan. The brand is known for its proprietary complex, Hadasei-3, which consists of double-fermented rice, green tea, and algae.
While the brand was founded in the United States, its product formulation and manufacturing take place in Japan to maintain the authenticity of its botanical ingredients and traditional craftsmanship. In 2019, Tatcha was acquired by Unilever for an estimated $500 million, marking its transition from an independent boutique brand to a key player within a global multinational portfolio.
