Created by Lawrence Frank and Walter Van de Kamp, the seasoning was originally intended solely for the restaurant's patrons but became so popular that it was launched for retail sale. It is widely recognized by its distinctive 'L' logo and red cap.

Today, Lawry's is a household staple manufactured primarily in the United States. The brand underwent a significant ownership shift in 2008 when it was acquired by McCormick & Company from Unilever.
