Ptasie Mleczko is one of Poland's most iconic and beloved confectionery products, originally developed by the prominent E. Wedel company. These soft chocolate-covered marshmallows have a rich history dating back to 1936, when Jan Wedel, the grandson of the company founder, created the recipe inspired by his travels in France. The name, which translates to 'Bird's Milk,' refers to an ancient Slavic metaphor for luxury and rarity.

The brand has undergone several ownership changes throughout Poland's modern history. After being nationalized during the communist era, the company was privatized and eventually became part of global portfolios like PepsiCo and Kraft Foods. Since 2010, the brand has been under the ownership of the South Korean-Japanese multinational Lotte Group. Despite the international ownership, the production remains deeply rooted in its homeland, with primary manufacturing taking place at the historic Wedel factory in Warsaw, Poland.
