The brand was formed from the merger of two Korean companies: Lak-Hui (Lucky) Chemical Industrial Corp, founded in 1947, and GoldStar Co. Ltd., founded in 1958. They officially merged to become Lucky-Goldstar, and eventually abbreviated the name to LG in 1995 to better compete in Western markets.
