Mariestads is one of Sweden's most iconic beer brands, tracing its history back to the Mariestads Bryggeri founded in 1848 by Fredrik Rosenqvist. The brand has specialized in traditional lager production for over a century and a half, building a reputation for craft and quality.

While the original brewery in Mariestad was closed in 1967, the brand was revitalized under Spendrups Bryggeri, a major Swedish family-owned beverage company. It is currently produced in Spentrups' modern brewing facilities in Sweden, primarily in Grängesberg. The brand remains under the ultimate ownership of the Spendrup family through their namesake company, Spentrups Bryggeri AB, which is headquartered in Vårby, Sweden.
