Milka is one of the world's most recognizable chocolate brands, famous for its lilac-colored packaging and the Alpine cow mascot. The brand was originally established in Switzerland in 1901 by Philippe Suchard. The name 'Milka' is a portmanteau of the German words for milk and cocoa (Milch und Kakao).

Although the brand has Swiss roots, the majority of its manufacturing today takes place in Lörrach, Germany, along with other European facilities in countries like Austria and Poland, depending on the specific product line. Ownership has changed hands through various corporate mergers over the decades. Since 2012, Milka has been a flagship brand of Mondelēz International, an American multi-national confectionery giant that was spun off from Kraft Foods. Mondelēz continues to manage the brand's global distribution and marketing, maintaining its status as a leader in the European chocolate market.
