While the brand has deep Swedish roots and was historically produced in Kungälv, Sweden, production was moved to Latvia in recent years following corporate restructuring by the parent company.

Today, the brand is owned by Orkla, a Norwegian industrial conglomerate that acquired Göteborgs Kex as part of its widespread expansion into the Nordic consumer goods market. Specifically, it falls under the Orkla Confectionery & Snacks division. Despite the change in manufacturing location to Riga, Latvia, Ballerina remains one of Sweden's most popular cookie brands, often associated with Swedish 'fika' culture.
