Finesse is a well-established hair care brand that rose to significant fame during the 1980s, known for its signature scent and the innovative "self-adjusting" formula designed to provide different levels of conditioning based on the hair's needs. The brand was originally developed and launched in the United States, positioning itself as a premium yet accessible drugstore staple for consumers seeking professional-quality results at home.
The brand was originally founded by Helene Curtis Industries, a Chicago-based personal care giant. In 1996, Helene Curtis was acquired by Unilever, which managed the brand for several years as part of its global grooming portfolio. However, in 2006, Unilever sold several of its North American hair care brands to Lornamead, Inc.
In contemporary times, the ownership of Finesse has been divided geographically. Since 2012, Yellow Wood Partners (through its holding company PDC Brands) acquired the brand for the North American and UK markets. Today, the brand is managed by Bansk Group following their acquisition of a majority stake in several former PDC beauty brands. While most production is centered in North America to serve its primary consumer base, the brand maintains a global legacy through various licensing and distribution agreements.
