Nordsee was founded in 1896 as the 'Deutsche Dampffischerei-Gesellschaft NORDSEE' in Bremen, Germany, by a group of shipowners and merchants. Its goal was to supply the inland population with fresh fish through its own fleet and distribution network. Over more than a century, it transitioned from a pure fishing company to Europe's leading seafood restaurant chain and retail brand, known for its snack counters and high-quality seafood products.
The brand has undergone several ownership changes, having been part of Unilever and later owned by private equity firms like KKR and the HK Food Group. As of current years, the brand is owned by the Kharis Capital investment group via its subsidiary QSR Platform. While the physical restaurants are primarily located in Germany and Austria, Nordsee products are also available in retail formats across numerous European markets.
Nordsee maintains a complex supply chain focused on sustainability, sourcing fish from various international waters. Consequently, manufacturing and processing occur in multiple countries depending on the specific fish species and delivery logistics, adhering to high European quality standards and MSC certifications.
