Becel is a well-known brand specializing in heart-healthy plant-based margarines and oils. Originally launched by Unilever in the 1960s after health research requested an alternative to traditional butter, the brand name is derived from the acronym 'BCL' (Blood Cholesterol Lowering).
In 2018, Unilever sold its spreads division to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR), which established Upfield as the new parent company. Today, Upfield is the world's leading producer of plant-based spreads. While Becel products distributed in the Nordic region are primarily manufactured in Helsingborg, Sweden, the brand operates global supply chains with facilities across various countries to meet regional demand.
