The name is believed to be derived from the German word "Ballaststoffe," which translates to dietary fiber, highlighting the brand's focus on incorporating whole grains and providing a more wholesome alternative to traditional candy bars.

The product consists of a crunchy digestive biscuit base topped with various creamy fillings—such as muesli, yogurt, berries, or nuts—and is entirely coated in smooth milk chocolate.
