The HG brand originated in the early 1960s. The name comes from the initials of its original creator, Håkan Gip, a Swedish businessman who developed cleaning products for swimming pools. In 1969, the Dutch company Van Altena secured the rights to the name and products, eventually focusing production and innovation in the Netherlands. Today, HG International B.V. operates its own manufacturing facility in Almere, where the majority of its technical cleaning products are formulated and bottled, ensuring strict quality control and logistical efficiency for the European market.

Since 2017, HG has been owned by the investment firm Cobepa, while operating as an independent company. It remains a market leader in the Netherlands, Belgium, and the UK, providing specialized solutions for home, garden, and personal care maintenance.
