Nokia mobile phones and networking equipment

Nokia is a world-renowned Finnish brand with a rich history dating back to 1865, originally starting as a paper mill before evolving into an industrial giant and global leader in the mobile phone industry during the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Today, Nokia Corporation operates primarily as a provider of telecommunications equipment and network infrastructure. The manufacturing for its network gear is distributed globally, with major facilities in Finland, India, and China. In terms of consumer devices, the Nokia brand name is licensed to HMD Global, a Finnish company that designs and markets Nokia-branded smartphones and tablets. These mobile devices are manufactured through partnerships, notably with Foxconn (FIH Mobile), primarily in China and Vietnam.

Nokia remains a symbol of Finnish innovation. While it exited the handset manufacturing business directly by selling its unit to Microsoft in 2014, it remains the ultimate owner of the Nokia brand and intellectual property, license-managing its use through HMD Global for consumer electronics while focusing its core operations on 5G technology and cloud services.
