JOZO is a historic brand with a legacy dating back to 1929. The name itself is an abbreviation of the Dutch words for iodine salt, "jodium zout." Originally founded under the Royal Dutch Salt Industries (KNZ) in the Netherlands, the brand pioneered vacuum evaporation techniques that significantly improved the purity of salt. Over the decades, the company expanded its production to Denmark to serve the broader Scandinavian market.

Throughout its history, JOZO has been under various ownership structures. It was part of the chemicals giant AkzoNobel for many years before transitioning to Nouryon (a specialty chemicals company formed when AkzoNobel sold its chemicals division). In 2021, the Salins Group, a leading French salt producer, acquired Nouryon's salt specialties business, including the JOZO brand. Today, JOZO continues to be a household staple across Europe, known for its various grain sizes and commitment to quality, sourced from ancient underground caverns in Western Europe.
