Albert Heijn is the leading supermarket chain in the Netherlands, founded in 1887 by Albert Heijn Sr. in Oostzaan. Originally starting as a small family grocery store, it pioneered modern retail concepts in the Dutch market, including the introduction of the first self-service supermarket in 1952.

Today, Albert Heijn operates as the flagship brand of the multinational retail group Ahold Delhaize. The brand’s extensive private label assortment includes thousands of products ranging from basic commodities to premium food items. While a significant portion of its fresh produce, dairy, and bakery items are sourced locally within the Netherlands, its overall manufacturing network spans over 1,200 locations worldwide, following a sourcing strategy of being 'as close as possible and as far as necessary.'

Ownership of the brand rests with Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize N.V., a Dutch-Belgian multinational formed by the 2016 merger of Ahold and Delhaize Group. Headquartered in Zaandam, Netherlands, the parent company is one of the world's largest food retail groups, overseeing a diverse portfolio of brands across Europe and the United States.
