Blå Thor beer

Blå Thor is a renowned Danish strong pilsner, often referred to as a "guldøl" (gold beer) due to its higher alcohol content of 6.0% and the gold medal it won in a Brussels beer competition in 1964. The brand originated from the Thor Brewery (Thor Bryggerierne) in Randers, Denmark, which was officially founded in 1856 by Christian Emil Synnestvedt, taking over a facility started by Johan Peter Lindahl a few years earlier.

For over a century, the beer was brewed locally in Randers, becoming a regional icon. However, as the brewing industry consolidated, the Thor brewery became part of Jyske Bryggerier in 1976 and later merged with Faxe Bryggeri in 1989 to form Bryggerigruppen. In 2003, the production site in Randers was closed for economic reasons. Today, Blå Thor is produced by Royal Unibrew, typically at the Albani Brewery in Odense, maintaining its traditional recipe and cultural status in Denmark.
