Pfanni is a quintessential German brand synonymous with convenience potato and bread products. Founded in 1948 by Werner Eckart in Munich, the brand revolutionized post-war German kitchens by introducing ready-to-use potato mixtures. The 'Semmelknödel' (bread dumplings) featured here represent a staple of Bavarian and Austrian cuisine, packaged in practical boiling bags for easy preparation.

While the brand was originally a family-owned venture, it was sold to CPC Germany (later Bestfoods) in 1993, which was subsequently acquired by the British multinational Unilever in 2000. Today, Unilever remains the ultimate owner of the Pfanni brand. Although the original factory in Munich was closed in 1996 (and famously became a cultural/nightlife district), production was relocated to Stavenhagen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In 2020, Unilever entered a strategic partnership where the Stavenhagen production facility was sold to Aviko Rixona, though Unilever retains full ownership of the Pfanni brand and its recipes.
