Lloyds Bank is one of the oldest and most established financial institutions in the United Kingdom. Its history dates back to 1765, when it was founded in Birmingham as Taylors & Lloyds by button maker John Taylor and iron producer Sampson Lloyd II. Over the centuries, the bank grew through hundreds of acquisitions and mergers, most notably merging with TSB in 1995 and later acquiring HBOS in 2009 during the global financial crisis.
Today, the brand operates as part of Lloyds Banking Group plc, which is a major publicly traded company on the London Stock Exchange. While it previously had significant government ownership following a state bailout, the UK government sold its final shares in 2017, returning the company to full private ownership. As a service provider, its 'manufacturing' or operational base is primarily within the UK, where it serves millions of retail and commercial customers through a portfolio of iconic brands including Halifax, Bank of Scotland, and MBNA.
