The brand is famously recognized by its 'Baffo d'Oro' (Golden Mustache) logo, featuring an elderly gentleman enjoying a beer, which was inspired by a real man Luigi Moretti encountered in 1942.

Originally a regional pride of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia area, the brand expanded nationally in the late 20th century. In 1996, Birra Moretti was acquired by the Dutch brewing giant Heineken N.V. Since then, while its heart and heritage remain Italian, production has expanded globally to meet international demand. Today, it is brewed in several locations including Italy (under Heineken Italia) and the United Kingdom (at Heineken's Manchester brewery), continuing to use the traditional original recipe.
