Leffe beer

Leffe is one of the world's most famous Belgian abbey beers, with a history rooted in the Notre-Dame de Leffe abbey founded in 1152. The brewing tradition at the abbey began in 1240, intended as a way to provide a sanitary beverage for the local community. While the abbey was damaged during the French Revolution, the brand was revived in the 1950s through a landmark agreement between the Abbot of Leffe and a commercial brewer, becoming one of the first ‘secular’ abbey beers produced under license.

Today, the beer is produced on a large scale to meet global demand, primarily at the Stella Artois brewery in Leuven, Belgium. The brand maintains its connection to its spiritual roots through trademark royalties paid to the abbey, which support the religious community. The oversight of production is managed by the world's largest brewing conglomerate, ensuring consistent quality and worldwide distribution of varieties such as Blonde, Brune, and Triple.

Ownership of the brand has transitioned through various mergers, eventually becoming part of the Interbrew group, then InBev, and finally the current global leader in the beer industry. The brand is now a flagship of the owner’s international portfolio, representing high-end Belgian brewing heritage.
