Saiwa is an iconic Italian brand with deep roots in the confectionery market, most famous for its Oro Saiwa biscuits which have been a staple of Italian breakfasts for generations. Founded in Genoa in the early 20th century, the company initially focused on wafers and dry biscuits. The brand's identity is synonymous with traditional Italian baking and high-quality wheat-based snacks.
Over the decades, Saiwa's ownership has transitioned through several major multinational corporations. Originally an independent Italian firm (Società Accomandita Industria Wafer Affini), it was later acquired by Nabisco and subsequently became part of the Danone Group's biscuit division. In 2007, the brand reached its current corporate positioning when Kraft Foods acquired Danone's biscuit business.
Today, Saiwa is under the ultimate ownership of Mondelez International, the global snacking powerhouse that was spun off from Kraft Foods. While it remains a quintessentially Italian brand in terms of consumer perception and heritage, it operates within a global framework of production and distribution, managed by the local subsidiary Mondelez Italia.
