Matchbox is one of the most iconic names in the toy industry, famously known for its realistic die-cast vehicles. The brand was founded in the United Kingdom in 1953 by Leslie Smith and Rodney Smith of Lesney Products. The name 'Matchbox' originated from the founder's daughter, who was only allowed to bring toys to school that could fit inside a matchbox. This led to the creation of the first small-scale die-cast vehicle, the Queen's Coronation Coach.

Over the decades, Matchbox has seen several changes in ownership. Following the bankruptcy of Lesney Products in 1982, the brand was acquired by Universal Toys, then Tyco Toys in 1992, and finally by the American toy giant Mattel in 1997. Mattel continues to own and operate the brand today, alongside its former rival, Hot Wheels. While the brand originated in the UK, manufacturing has shifted over time to meet global demand and reduce costs. Today, Matchbox vehicles, including the Scania P 360 Fire Truck, are primarily manufactured in Thailand, with some production also occurring in China and Malaysia.
