Hardys is one of Australia's most venerable and globally recognized wine brands, with a history spanning over 170 years. Founded by Thomas Hardy in 1853, the brand began when he planted his first vines in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Over the decades, it evolved from a family-run enterprise into a major international player, known for pioneering multi-regional blending techniques that ensured consistent quality across its various labels, such as Nottage Hill, VR, and the premium Eileen Hardy range.
The production primarily takes place in Australia, sourcing grapes from prestigious regions including McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, and Coonawarra. The brand's ownership has seen several significant transitions, moving from the founding family to BRL Hardy, then to Constellation Brands, and eventually becoming the flagship brand of Accolade Wines.
In a landmark shift for the industry in 2025, Accolade Wines merged its operations with Pernod Ricard’s wine division to form a new global entity named Vinarchy. As of 2026, Hardys operates as a key global pillar within this new powerhouse, which is headquartered in Australia and stands as one of the largest specialist wine companies in the world.
