Papoutsanis is a historic Greek brand with a legacy dating back to 1870, when Dimitris Papoutsanis founded the first steam-powered olive oil and soap factory on the island of Lesvos. For over 150 years, the company has specialized in producing pure vegetable oil soaps, particularly those made from Greek olive oil. In the early 20th century, operations moved to Piraeus and later to Athens to accommodate industrial growth.

Today, Papoutsanis S.A. operates one of the largest and most technologically advanced production facilities in Southeastern Europe, located in Ritsona, Greece. The company remains an independent entity listed on the Athens Stock Exchange, producing its own branded goods like the iconic Karavaki and Olivia ranges, while also serving as a major third-party manufacturer for international hotel chains and retail brands. Their traditional olive oil soap bars continue to be made using time-honored methods while meeting modern ecological and dermatological standards.
