Valda is a legendary brand of balsamic throat pastilles that dates back to 1905, when it was created by the French pharmacist Henri-Edmond Canonne in Paris. The product was originally formulated to soothe respiratory irritations and quickly became famous across Europe, recognizable by its iconic green round metal tin and the fictional 'Doctor Valda' character used in early advertising. The brand's name itself is a portmanteau of the Latin words valetudo (health) and dare (to give).

Historically, the brand changed hands multiple times, being owned by pharmaceutical giants like GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). In 2015, as part of a strategic divestment by GSK, the brand was acquired by Omega Pharma, a Belgian company that was subsequently integrated into the global consumer healthcare firm Perrigo Company plc. Today, the product is primarily manufactured in France, staying true to its original heritage. In the Italian market, it is distributed and managed by Perrigo Italia S.r.l., a subsidiary of the ultimate parent company headquartered in Ireland.
