Filipinos are a well-known brand of chocolate-coated biscuits that take their name from their characteristic ring shape, which supposedly reminded its creators of Spanish-Filipino heritage or aesthetics. Despite the name, the product is not from the Philippines and is primarily a European confectionery staple.
The brand was originally launched in Spain by the company Artiach. Over the decades, the ownership of both the Artiach company and the Filipinos brand has transitioned through several major multinational corporations, including Nabisco, United Biscuits, and Panrico. Since 2012, the brand has been under the stewardship of Adam Foods, a prominent Spanish food group.
Currently, Filipinos are primarily manufactured in the company's specialized facility in Portugal. The biscuits remain highly popular in the Iberian Peninsula and are exported to various international markets, maintained by a legacy of traditional baking and modern chocolate-coating techniques.
