Korg is a world-renowned Japanese brand that has been at the forefront of musical innovation since its founding in 1962. Originally established as Keio Electronic Laboratories by Tsutomu Kato and Tadashi Osanai, the company first gained fame with the Donca-Matic rhythm machine before revolutionizing the industry with synthesizers like the M1 and the microKorg.

Today, Korg remains a private Japanese corporation headquartered in Inagi, Tokyo. While the Yamaha Corporation held a controlling interest in the company from 1987 to 1993, Korg regained its independence through a management buyback and continues to operate as an autonomous entity.

Manufacturing of Korg products occurs across several countries to balance high-end precision with accessibility. Flagship models and high-end synthesizers are predominantly manufactured in Japan to ensure strict quality standards. Meanwhile, more affordable consumer-level gear, such as the Volca series and various controllers, are typically produced in China or Vietnam. Additionally, specialized product lines like the Pa-Series arranger keyboards are developed in Korg's dedicated R&D center in Italy.
