Medtronic Simplera Continuous Glucose Monitor

Simplera is a next-generation continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system developed by Medtronic. It represents a significant advancement in diabetes management technology, featuring a discreet, all-in-one disposable sensor that is roughly half the size of its predecessors. The system is designed for simplicity, utilizing a two-step insertion process that eliminates the need for separate transmitters or additional overtape.

Originally developed by Medtronic's diabetes division, the Simplera platform includes the standalone CGM and the Simplera Sync sensor, which integrates with the MiniMed 780G automated insulin delivery system. The product received CE Mark clearance in Europe in 2023 and subsequent FDA approval in the United States in 2024 and 2025. While Medtronic is headquartered in Ireland for corporate purposes, its operational roots and major manufacturing hubs for medical electronics are based in the United States and Puerto Rico, with global distribution across more than 150 countries.
