Midas is an iconic American brand that revolutionized the automotive repair industry by introducing the concept of specialized service centers. Founded in 1956 in Macon, Georgia, by Nate H. Sherman, it initially focused on mufflers—the name itself being an acronym for 'Muffler Installation Dealers' Association'. Over the decades, Midas expanded its catalog to include a comprehensive range of automotive services including brakes, tires, oil changes, and suspension repairs.
The brand's ownership has transitioned through several major corporations. In 2012, it was acquired by TBC Corporation, which is a joint venture between Sumitomo Corporation of Americas and Michelin. In June 2025, a significant shift occurred when Mavis Tire Express Services Corp. acquired Midas and its sister brand, SpeeDee Oil & Auto Service, from TBC Corporation. This acquisition solidified Mavis Tire's position as one of the largest automotive service providers in North America. Today, Midas operates via a vast franchise network across the United States, Canada, and several international markets, with products like mufflers and brake pads manufactured by various global suppliers.
