Matte Leão is a heritage Brazilian brand founded in 1901 by Agostinho Ermelino de Leão Jr. in Curitiba. Originally starting as a matte herb processing facility, it became an iconic symbol of Brazilian beach culture and refreshment over more than a century. The brand's signature orange packaging and lion logo are deeply associated with the high consumption of yerba mate in South America.
In 2007, the brand was acquired by The Coca-Cola Company as part of its strategy to diversify its beverage portfolio into the tea sector. Today, the product is primarily manufactured in Brazil by various regional bottling partners of the Coca-Cola system. It remains the market leader in the Brazilian ready-to-drink tea segment, maintaining its traditional recipe while benefiting from the global distribution network and quality standards of its parent company, based in the United States.
