Suunto was founded in 1936 by Tuomas Vohlonen, a Finnish surveyor who invented the liquid-filled field compass. For decades, the brand became synonymous with precision navigation for outdoor enthusiasts, mountaineers, and divers. The company's hallmark is its commitment to high-quality craftsmanship, with many of its premium products still being manufactured by hand at its headquarters in Vantaa, Finland.

Over the years, the brand transitioned from analog compasses to advanced digital sports watches and dive computers. In 2022, Suunto underwent a major ownership change when Amer Sports sold the brand to Liesheng, a leading Chinese technology company specializing in smart wearable electronics. This acquisition aimed to combine Suunto’s heritage in precision hardware with Liesheng’s expertise in digital technology and scale.
