Lucozade energy drink

Lucozade is a globally recognized energy and sports drink brand with a rich history originating in the United Kingdom. It was first formulated in 1927 by William Owen, a chemist from Newcastle, who aimed to provide a source of energy for those suffering from common illnesses like the flu. Originally named 'Glucozade,' it was rebranded to Lucozade in 1929 and eventually became a staple in British households.

Manufacturing for the core Lucozade range is primarily centered at the Coleford factory in Gloucestershire, England, which is one of the largest beverage production facilities in Europe. While the UK remains its main production hub to serve its largest market, Lucozade is also produced or bottled in other regions, including parts of Africa and Southeast Asia, to meet local demand.

Ownership of the brand has transitioned through major pharmaceutical and consumer goods giants. For decades, it was owned by Beecham (later GlaxoSmithKline). In 2013, the brand was acquired by the Japanese beverage conglomerate Suntory. Today, Lucozade sits under the Suntory Beverage & Food Limited division, operating as part of Suntory Beverage & Food Great Britain and Ireland (SBF GB&I).
